Plugins
Plugins Used on This Site
In an effort to combat comment and spam and to make your visit here as enjoyable as possible, I’ve implemented some plugins that will hopefully do the job. So, in no particular order…
- ChaitGear CG-PowerPack
- David Chait has created several powerful plugins for WordPress and not only has he kept them updated over the years, but he’s zipped ‘em all up into one big spectacular bundle. Among the goodies in the CG-PowerPark are my beloved CG-Amazon plugin, CG-Referrer, CG-AntiSpam, CG-Related, and CG-WhatTunes.
- CG-QuickPHP
- God bless David Chait. He has created what I’ve been looking for ever since I found out that I couldn’t embed PHP coding into my WP static Pages. Which meant that I couldn’t run my beloved CG-Amazon pages (one for Music and the other for Books), nor could I create a Skins Page where the user could click a “Make This My Skin” link. But no worries. ChaitGear to the rescue!
- RumMovie
- This is a plugin that fetches information from the Internet Movie Database and places it in your blog entry.
- Mini-Blog
- This handy sideblog plugin was developed by Thomas Cort of Medium Bagel.
- Clean Archives 1.0
- Shawn Grimes has created his first plugin for WordPress 1.5, and what a plugin it is! It elegantly displays your archive posts (see the Archive Page here for an example). What’s great about this plugin is the thought that went into its construction. Shawn has anticipated the desire to customize the output and has embedded a class in the plugin so that if you want a unique style to the output, you just need to add the class (postspermonth) to your stylesheet and style to your heart’s content. Great work, Shawn. I look forward eagerly to your next offering.
- WP-Contact Form
- This plugin was developed by Ryan Duff. It can be used on WP Pages or Posts to insert a contact form. The form is completely customizable through the WP Dashboard. See it at work on my Contact link (which is actually a WordPress Page) on the sidebar.
- Structured Blogging
- Structured Blogging is a great plugin for managing event entries and reviews. While this site will likely never use the plugin for event entries, it is very handy for posting product and movie reviews, especially when coupled with the WP-Amazon, CG-Amazon and IMDB plugins!
- Obfuscate E-Mail
- This clever plugin was developed by Coffee2Code’s Scott Reilly. It does exactly what its name implies: It obfuscates e-mail addresses in text and links via random hex and ASCII code substitution while retaining the appearance and functionality of hyperlinks. In the browser, the links look and behave the same. Mailto links activate your email program. Yet, if you view the source code, you will see strings of hex code. Thus, bots and spiders can’t harvest the email addresses found there.
- WeatherIcon
- This for-fun plugin is used to display local weather conditions and was developed by SonicPling. (Since this is Houston, known for rain, those snow icons will probably never be used!)
- Link Manager
- This handy plugin was developed by Owen Winkler at the behest of WP Support mavin Lorelle (thank you!). You can see it at work in my “Links” Page on the sidebar. Very very cool plugin!
- My NetFlix
- This is another for-fun plugin, developed by Jimmy Oliver, that displays (at your option) your NetFlix Queue, your NetFlix activities (as mine does, items out and items returned) or your NetFlix Recommendations. It also gives you the option of limiting the number of items output, in the event you have a large rental queue or prolific recommendations.
- LMB-Box FilePress
- This uber-cool plugin was developed by Thomas Montague. It puts a “FilePress” button onyour quickstart bar. This wonderful button lets you browse your hard drive(s) for images to upload, lets you define whether they are inline or popup, whether they link to another image, and which image, and you can style the bejus out of it! I love it!!!! Thanks, Thomas!!!
